Rob Welham collected his Super One awards for 5th in the Championship and Top Rookie at the Autosport Awards. The following day he called in at Kimbolton to visit the team and show his awards to Team Manager Jake Coward (right) and his mechanic for the 2017 campaign Phil Smith (left)
Zak Oates took 2nd place at the first round of the HKRC championship at Kimbolton. Despite some tricky heats which included being taken out before the start causing a nosecone penalty, Oates looked more than capable of taking the win having set 2 out of 3 fastest laps. However more terrible luck would strike when the driver immediately in front of Oates broke down at the start of the final dropping Oates to around 7th. He would recover with an excellent drive to work his way back to 2nd and close the leader down by over 2 seconds whilst setting the fastest lap before having to settle for 2nd position. A strong start to his 2018 campaign with plenty more still to come!
Zak Oates took his second win in two weeks in Jnr TKM, this time at Shenington. Commanding drives in the heats saw a 5th from 16th & two wins to put Oates on pole for the final. A flawless lights to flag victory whilst under pressure from this years British Championship runner up saw Oates also score enough points to confirm him as Vice Champion!
Zak Oates continued his excellent run of form by taking victory at the recent HKRC meeting at Kimbolton In Jnr TKM.
Two good heats in difficult conditions would see Oates line up for the final in 2nd place. A good start saw Oates working with the leader to pull out a sizeable gap, just over mid race would see Oates make his move for the lead and then proceed to control the race to take the chequered flag and the win!
Zak Oates took another 2nd place at Shenington at the most recent SKRC round. Excellent drives through the heats would see Zak start the final on pole, whilst initially dropping to 3rd Zak recovered back to 2nd place and despite having the pace he just couldn't find a way into the leadm therefore having to settle for 2nd at the flag whilst again demonstrating his ability!
Robert Welham finished his junior karting career with an excellent victory at the Whilton Mill Britains Finest event in Jnr TKM.
Despite 'nipping-up' his best engine on Friday, the team worked tirelessly to get the engine back on the pace for the rest of the weekend & Welham repaid their work by putting in another tactical masterclass in the final to take a fine victory!
Preparations are already underway for Roberts 2018 senior campaign in which he will compete in Super One along with selected events.
Zak Oates added another trophy to his collection with 2nd place in Jnr TKM at the latest round of the SKRC championships. Oates actually led the final onto the last lap having worked his way up from 4th on the grid but on this occasion couldn't quite close out the win, excellent pace all day however gives a preview of what's to come from the young man!
Zak Oates recently joined the team in Jnr TKM and in his second event with us he managed 3rd position in the final at the most recent round on the Shenington Club Championship! This leaves Zak firmly in contention for the championship win with 3 rounds left to go!
A great 2017 Super One campaign for the team saw Joe Stockford finish in 6th position in Snr TKM after taking a Round win and also a podium. Rob Welham finished the Jnr TKM Championship in 5th position along with top Rookie after taking 3 round wins and a podium!
we are incredibly proud to be the only team that managed to score victories in both Jnr & Snr TKM this season!
Rob Welham took the win in Jnr TKM at Round 7 of the Super One Championship, a brilliant drive in the final saw Welham snatch the lead on the very last lap & hold on to the flag in a race being dubbed 'the greatest ever kart race'! This was Welham's 3rd Super One win of the season and also gave him the top Rookie award for 2017 & 5th in the championship overall!
The team travelled to Shenington for the penultimate round of the Super One Championship. Rob Welham was on fire all weekend taking the win in both of the Jnr TKM finals on Sunday & the biggest points haul of the class by a considerable margin!
In Snr TKM Lewis Wadley & Joe Stockford both had to run their reserve engine for the main final, despite this both put in fantastic drives to cross the line in 4th & 5th positions respectively. This was the best result to date for Wadley at Super One & another top 5 for Stockford who continues his great run of form!
Rob Welham continued his great run of form in Jnr TKM to secure 3rd place in the Elite final at the TKM Festival! Running in the front three all weekend, Welham looked like a real contender for the win & battled for the lead during the final itself. The race however was all but ended by several laps under the 'battenburg' flag. Racing resumed with one lap remaining with the leader immediately opting to defend therefore the top 5 all held position on the last lap with Welham picking up a podium!
Another great result for the team this weekend at the Shenington Superprix with Rob Welham taking the win in Jnr TKM which gives him the SP plate! Having started the final 5th, Rob worked his way to the front & then put in a controlled drive to lead all the way to the chequered flag. A faultless drive under tremendous pressure from Ross Deal in 2nd place.
Fantastic weekend for the team at GYG S1 coming away with two podiums!
Joe Stockford took his first S1 win in Snr TKM, having run at the front all weekend & finishing 3rd in final 1, Joe put in a great drive in final 2 which saw him work his way back up from 5th into the lead. A brilliant battle ensued over the remainder of the race between the top 3 which would see Joe go into the last lap in 2nd position, with two corners to go Joe pulled off one of the best passes I've seen in all my years racing to take a well deserved win! We knew it was coming after his podium at Fulbeck, hopefully the first of many!
Rob Welham took a great 3rd position in Jnr TKM having been the subject of some questionable calls by the officials during the heats. Having been taken out of heat 2, Rob started final 1 in 27th, working his way to 12th by the chequered flags with some fine overtakes. Final 2 would see another big push to see Rob work his way through the pack to take another podium at S1, great work for his first S1 campaign!
Joe Stockford took a brilliant 3rd place in Snr TKM at Fulbeck, putting in a number of fine drives throughout the weekend & demonstrating some excellent pace to back up the good results from Clay Pigeon. We know there's still more to come from the package as a whole but we keep moving it forward & Joe's making the best of it, it feels like an S1 win can't be far off the cards!
Excellent weekend overall at the E plate at Fulbeck, Joe Stockford looked seriously quick by the end of Friday which is good news for next weekend at S1 (he didn't race this weekend).
Rob Welham had a couple of difficult heats (also a good 2nd place finish) in which he ended up on the wrong end of other people's crashes which meant he started the final 15th. An epic drive saw him work his way to the front & led going into the final lap & looked in control, however he was driven off the circuit, again, which scuppered any chance of a decent result. The pace was there for S1 which is what really matters!
Lewis Wadley started the final 5th after solid heats, another top quality drive saw Lewis come home 3rd, making the best out a package that seemed to lack pace in the final so we'll take that away to look at & make sure it's all on song for next week!
All in all our drivers did great, the best part is we get to do it all again this weekend!
The team attended Kimbolton in June as preparation for the TKM Festival which takes place in August. Robert Welham competed in Jnr TKM & Lewis Wadley competed in Snr TKM.
Rob put in a series of fantastic drives during the heats to take two wins & a second putting him on pole for the final & odds on for the victory. A blistering start would see Rob pull a 6 kart length lead in just half a lap, however a sheared wheel stud resulted in the rear right wheel departing from the kart & forcing Rob into a retirement. Terrible luck & not the result Rob deserved!
Lewis also put in a number of good drives in the heats to take 4th, 2nd & 3rd which meant he lined up 3rd for the final. Even before the final the team knew we had a tyre issue & had been struggling for pace throughout the day. Despite this Lewis put in a gutsy drive to finish 4th which was a solid result however not the one our pace in testing had suggested was possible!
The team enjoyed a fantastic weekend at Round 3 of the Super One British Championship.
Robert Welham finished a great 6th position in Jnr TKM to score valuable points for the championship.
Joe Stockford finished a fantastic 4th place in Snr TKM with Lewis Wadley taking 7th, both drivers could and probably should have been on the podium & both came away with good points scored!
The team enjoyed a successful weekends racing at Clay Pigeon as part of the preparations for the upcoming Super One championship round. We fielded three drivers, Robert Welham, Joe Stockford, Lewis Wadley & during Friday testing all three drivers begin posting times to put them amongst the pace setters. Over the two days racing, Robert Welham in Jnr TKM achieved some good results including a heat win. Joe Stockford in Snr TKM displayed great pace mixing it at the front of the field battling on the top 3 but sadly luck was against Joe meaning the deserved result didn't materialise. Lewis Wadley in Snrs won two trophies for 4th on Saturday & 6th on Sunday whilst also setting some of the fastest laps of the weekend!
Lewis Wadley took the win in Snr TKM in his first visit to Fulbeck as part of preparations for the E plate & Super One round there later in the year. Despite a small grid the quality was immense, Lewis battled all day with the 2016 Jnr TKM British Champion & also with the 2016 Jnr TKM 0 plate winner. The three drivers put on a great display in every race of the day & in the final Lewis managed to get the better of his rivals to pull off a beautifully executed win!
The newest driver to the team is Harley Slater who has just turned 8 years old. Harley has started his outdoor karting career in the Iame Cadet class and so far has completed 7 driver coaching days with the team, the first being his first ever time in a cadet kart. The progress has been incredible so far with Harley able to complete his ARKS test after only 2 full coaching days. Each coaching day has seen a step forward in performance & understanding meaning Harley is already posting competitive times & will be one to watch when the decision is made to enter him into race events!
